Opening a clinic in a remote area: the story of a collective challenge
In Cayenne, in a territory as vast as it is underserved, the Rainbow Santé Group has taken on an ambitious challenge: to create a modern, multidisciplinary clinic adapted to the realities of French Guiana. With 13,000 m² dedicated to healthcare, La Clinique La Canopée marks a major step forward in the local healthcare system.
This large-scale project would not have been possible without the right digital support. From the earliest stages of design, Rainbow Santé chose to rely on Evolucare, its long-standing partner, to structure the care pathway around a secure, interoperable and comprehensive information system based on the Osiris EHR.
In this overseas department, the needs are immense: a young population, isolated areas, and a high rate of precariousness. The challenges are considerable. The La Canopée clinic is a key player in healthcare provision, with paediatric, geriatric, palliative care and follow-up care units.
French Guiana is a remote territory facing medical deserts. By establishing La Canopée here, we wanted to address glaring gaps in public health with services such as palliative care and the follow-up and rehabilitation care, which were absent from the local landscape.
Behind this project, a close-knit group has formed: healthcare professionals, administrators, technical partners, all united around the same goal.
The La Canopée clinic has changed the situation. It allows patients to remain in treatment here in French Guiana, in dignified conditions, without having to travel to mainland France.
Setting up a clinic in French Guiana is not just about constructing a building. It’s about bringing teams together, creating momentum, training and supporting staff. And that can only be done by working together.
The continuation of Evolucare’s EHR solutions at the heart of healthcare in French Guiana
The choice of a comprehensive, integrated hospital information system was a decisive factor in ensuring the successful opening of the La Canopée clinic. From the outset, Rainbow Santé entrusted Evolucare with structuring the entire patient journey around the Osiris EHR, the core of the Evolucare Care software suite.
In a new facility in a remote location, having a single, centralised and interoperable system is a strategic challenge: it facilitates operational implementation, limits workload disruptions, improves the traceability of care, and ensures compliance with current regulatory requirements.
Osiris is a real help in our daily work. It centralises all the information, which allows us to monitor our patients more effectively and coordinate care between departments.
From his post, Dr Kinsiona can consult medical records, prescribe medication, work directly with the pharmacy and provide high-quality follow-up care, even remotely. In a region where patients may come from far away, this continuity of information is invaluable in ensuring safe treatment.
The integration of Osiris with other modules in the Evolucare Care range – including PUI pharmacy management (Winpharm), bed scheduling and patient administrative management (Medsphere) – enables unified management, smooth workflows and better coordination between departments. Every healthcare professional has the right information at the right time.
Osiris is always open on my computer. As soon as a patient is admitted, I can adjust their diet according to their medical needs. It is a precise and reliable tool.
This modular and consistent approach also ensures better maintainability of the HIS, clearer support for teams and optimal use of data, particularly via the Analytics module, which is used for quality management.

The Rainbow Santé Group and La Canopée Clinic
Rainbow Santé has been operating in French Guiana for over 15 years. It develops coordinated, local healthcare services through health and medico-social facilities and home-based services to combat inequalities in access to healthcare in the region.
Inaugurated in 2025 in Cayenne, the Clinique La Canopée is a modern multidisciplinary facility designed to meet the specific needs of the local population. It has a capacity of 110 inpatient beds and 25 day hospital places, enabling it to treat both patients requiring long-term hospitalisation and those requiring outpatient care (rehabilitation, dialysis, specialised care).
