How Imago DU Makes the Tracking of Pathways Between Disability and Child Protection More Reliable

In Bordeaux, the OREAG association provides daily support to children and adolescents involved in disability services, child welfare, and juvenile justice, sometimes under a dual measure. At the DITEP Bordeaux Center, the implementation of Imago DU has made it possible to centralize the monitoring of these often overlapping cases, with particular attention paid to the specific needs of child protection.

A user profile that needs to be reimagined for paths that often intersect

At the OREAG’s DITEP Bordeaux Center, the cases handled involve disability or child protection—and sometimes both at the same time, when a young person is facing dual vulnerabilities. It is in this context that a project to overhaul the user file system has been launched.

In 2022, the Digital ESMS program—as part of the french Ségur du numérique initiative—seized the opportunity to begin the search for a new tool, with a goal shared by all teams: software that is easy to use on a daily basis and provides real added value for both professionals and the young people they support.

We realized that the solution we had before didn’t meet our needs in terms of usability and the features it offered.

A collaborative decision, a requirement: to also serve the cause of child protection

The project is being carried out as part of a consortium with two other managing organizations involved in the same Ségur initiative: ADIAPH and the Jean-Elien Jambon Territorial Platform, a public institution based in Coutras. A set of common specifications and audit phases involving market vendors first enable the preselection of the most suitable solutions.

Field teams are then directly involved in the final selection through user groups established across all three managing organizations. A dedicated test environment allows a sample of professionals from each facility to actually try out the software and familiarize themselves with how it works before any decisions are made. This feedback from the field is crucial: at OREAG, as with the other organizations, it is the software’s simplicity and intuitiveness that make all the difference.

Next comes the deployment phase, during which Evolucare provides support: training programs spread out over several months, the availability of Laurence Voisin, the trainer in charge of the project, and in-person configuration work to adapt the menus and the software’s structure to the specific needs of an ITEP.

« What stands out to me, first and foremost, is their availability despite numerous requests, and the responsiveness of all departments.»

Imago DU supports day-to-day field operations, with a dedicated section on the child protection

In the social services section, there are all the categories: written judgments, reports, and reports of concern. This helps to provide information about them and to search for them.

Beyond disability, Imago DU specifically organizes situations related to child protection, including interactions with the judicial system.

This saves valuable time when compiling case files for the judge or the MDPH, where the paper-based system previously required constant back-and-forth communication. Centralization also benefits multidisciplinary coordination. Emma Riffaud regularly participates in clinical meetings with doctors and in weekly operational meetings, where shared access to the case file allows her to gather information and stay up to date on the situation without relying on a third party.

Françoise Cuvelier, an educator in the DITEP’s residential services department, also works with young people under the jurisdiction of child protective services, some of whom face both types of vulnerability. The logbook and user file serve as central repositories for communications and official documents, which directly improves the quality of the written materials submitted to the courts.

When we start our shift in the evening, Imago lets us know if there were any significant events during the day and helps us take into account the young person’s entire daily environment.

On the administrative side, the entire day-to-day workflow has changed. Administrative documents and notifications, which were previously spread across various paper-based formats, are now filed directly in Imago.

Tangible benefits, with the child protection challenge continuing to grow

One year after deployment, the results are positive: centralized information, improved continuity between day and night shifts, and better-coordinated personalized care plans.

The usage targets set by the french Digital ESMS program (90% active records and secure healthcare messaging system installed) were met within the specified timeframe, allowing the second tranche of the grant to be released.

OREAG now intends to take further steps regarding the child protection and joint disability initiatives: the integration of the SERAFIN-PH framework is scheduled to begin in September 2026, to provide a more detailed justification of activities to funding agencies. A steering committee comprising educators and quality advisors in the field has been formed to continue this capacity-building effort, with a shared goal: to make greater use of the software’s features that have been underutilized to date.

A solution designed for ESSMS serving diverse client populations

This implementation demonstrates Imago DU’s ability to integrate, within a single tool, service pathways related to both disability and child protection. This is a key challenge for ESSMS organizations serving populations with dual vulnerabilities. Each year, Evolucare supports child protection stakeholders, particularly during the Child Protection Conference.
